Reading: Proverbs 3:1-12. Memory: Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” Introduction: How many in here have done something foolish in their lives that they wish they had not done? How many are hoping that their children do not make the same foolish mistakes they have made? Too bad we didn’t have a wise old sage to share wisdom with us on how to approach life. We do. Solomon. God through him in Book of Proverbs. Every one wants a good life, a quality life, in order to have a quality life, We need to live our lives as wisely as possible. (HOW?) Proverb 3:1-12 gives us a sampling of wise and godly advice that will lead us to a good life. First thing is exactly what we might expect. He says “Remember what I told you!”. (Read vs. 1-2) I. Don’t Forget Good Teachings: (Vs. 1-2) A. Who’s teachings? God’s teachings or parent’s? Should be Solomon’s to his children actually. Solomon’s is same as God’s. If parent’s teachings are from Bible, same as God’s also. God’s teachings are not burdensome. They are a help. 1 John 5:3, “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,…” Goal of parent’s instruction is a long and good life. “Get education”. “Don’t play in the street.” B. Assumes a wise and godly parent. Solomon is “wisest man that ever lived.” His advice is good! Some parents give ungodly advice because they don’t know God themselves. Can blind lead the blind? Both will fall into a pit! First requirement is that it be godly advice. C. Primary requirement of parent’s teaching ought to be to follow God! Ephesians 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” Ephesians 6:4, “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Includes all of God’s training and instruction. D. “Good Teachings” include personal example. Kids are looking to see whether: You smoke, use coarse language, give in to outbursts of anger, How you handle conflicts with your spouse, neighbor and friends. What is your devotion to God. They will probably follow your example of devotion to God. Research shows that personal faith of Mom and Dad is critical to children’s faith. No parental church activity, ą10% of children attending will continue. If Mom only, ~ 20 %. If Dad only, ~40%. If both are active, ą90%. Can you give some other, general, overriding principles that will always guide me? Yes!: II. Cling To “Love” And “Faithfulness”. (Vs. 3-4; “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” A. “Faithfulness”. NAS and KJV both translate as “Truth” It means “Always try to do what is right”. Right before the police and civil government. Law. In school. Be honest; if you didn’t do your homework, be truthful about it, don’t fudge it. If you are trying to do what is right, folks and authorities will respect and help you in general. B. “Love”. NAS translates as “Kindness”. KJV as “Mercy” Means “Always trying to be helpful”. This will gain you favor with authorities as well. Who can be harsh towards somebody who is sincerely trying to help someone in a gentle sort of way? Remember, 1 Peter 4:8, “…love covers over a multitude of sins.” Your loving actions will help cover your own blunders as well. Many things will be forgiven if you are trying to be helpful! C. These concepts are also identified as a primary goal in the New Testament. 1 Timothy 1:5, “The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” These governed the Apostle’s actions and teachings. Jesus’ as well. God’s. Luke 2:52, says “Jesus grew in favor with God and man.” You will too if you follow this advice. D. Practice ”love” and “faithfulness” in all matters. Disciplining your child. Being the boss at the office. Being employee Arguing with your spouse. Dealing with neighbor over a boundary dispute. Patiently seek all the facts to know the truth. Deal kindly with all situations. If you make a mistake, make it on the side of kindness. In doctrine, in child discipline, in relation to other people. If you make a mistake, of not seeming kind enough, let it be for sake of truth seeking. There is another vital piece of advice I want to point out here in verse 5; “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” . Whatever happens in your life: III. Trust God With All Your Heart: A. This means; Do what God says in ALL circumstances. Don’t pick and choose and trust God sometimes. This is not a sometimes trust. Not a partly trust. His Word doesn’t just get a high priority; God is all, and in control of all. B. Means; “… lean not on your own understanding”. (Verse 5b) Temptation is to do what you think best. You may not have all the information. “Surely God doesn’t expect for me to endure this sort of situation I’m living through.” TRUST HIM. His understanding is inscrutable. The more you examine it, the more you find it is correct. C. Means; “…in all your ways acknowledge him.” (Verse 6) All during the week, do what God teaches. He is the perfect guide. Attitudes. Way you mow the lawn, fix machinery, wallpaper. Don’t cuss then either. Relationship with children, spouse, neighbor, boss, store clerk, Conflicts with others. D. Means; “…fear the LORD and shun evil.” (Verse 7b) Always act like He is right there, looking over your shoulder. (He is!) When you are alone on the Internet; Evil is there, tempting, God is there watching. Choose! E. Means; “Honor the LORD with your wealth.” (Verse 9) With everything you own really belongs to God. It is a gift from Him. Honor Him with it. Do you bring God glory with your money and things? Do you covet and hoard, or r u generous? Do you use the TV he gave you to watch evil things? Use your $ to purchase detestable things? Matthew 6:21, “…for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Honor with heart. F. Means; “…do not despise the LORD’S discipline…” (Verse 11) When the Lord rebukes you by brining harsh consequences to your bad behavior, respect it. It is proof of His love and our son ship. Like parent spanking child he loves. Don’t complaining, murmur, grumble or lose faith when you reap the results of unfaithful behavior. Endure the discipline. Learn and grow godly from it. So What?: Each of us has made dumb mistakes in our lives. We have done things we should have known better than to do. We have done things somebody could have told us would lead to trouble. We can live wisely and lead a good life. Trust God and follow godly advice. Seek A Good Life Proverbs 3:1-12 Reading: Proverbs 3:1-12. Memory: Proverbs 3:5 “T_ i_ t_ L_ w_ a_ y_ h_ a_ l_ n_ o_ y_ o_ u_” We need to live our lives as wisely as possible. (HOW?) Wise and godly advice that will lead us to a good life. I. Don’t Forget Good Teachings: Proverb 3:1-2 A. Who’s teachings? 1 John 5:3 B. Assumes a wise and godly parent. C. Parent’s teaching ought to be to follow God! Ephesians 6:1 Ephesians 6:4 D. “Good Teachings” include personal example. II. Cling To “Love” And “Faithfulness”. Proverb 3:3-4 A. “Faithfulness”. B. “Love”. 1 Peter 4:8 C. Also a primary goal in the New Testament. 1 Timothy 1:5 Luke 2:52 D. Practice ”love” and “faithfulness” in all matters. III. Trust God With All Your Heart: Proverb 3:5 A. Do what God says in ALL circumstances. B. “… lean not on your own understanding”. Proverb 3:5b C. “…in all your ways acknowledge him.” Proverb 3:6 D. “…fear the LORD and shun evil.” Proverb 3:7b E. “Honor the LORD with your wealth.” Proverb 3:9 Matthew 6:21 F. “…do not despise the LORD’S discipline…” Proverb 3:11 So What?: Trust God and follow godly advice. !",hprƒŠŒ˜ëřů”•ĹĆÇĘÍÎÜ,-‡öčŢčÓčÓÇÓčÓÇÓť˛Š ö˜Ž‚ŽwkwbT6CJOJQJ]^JaJCJOJQJ^J>*CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJ>*CJOJQJ\^JCJOJQJ\^JOJQJ\^JCJ OJQJ^JCJOJQJ^JCJOJQJ^J5>*CJOJQJ^J>*CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ\^J5>*CJOJQJ^JaJ5>*OJQJ^J!"hƒëůWľ D”•Í,-ťĎr o p ňňňččččÚÚÚÚÚčččččččÎÎÎÎč & F Ć h8  & F ĆhĐ8  ĆhĐ8  $ ĆhĐ8 a$#ţ‡ŽŻ˛šĎ튳ś > n o p ” € Č Ő Ř ő # & • Ç Č ÷ × Ř đâŘŃÉŃŔľŠľ˜ľâľŃľŃŠľ˜}˜ľŠľoaŃľVCJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ\]^JaJ56CJOJQJ^JaJ#56>*CJOJQJ\]^JaJCJ OJQJ^J 56CJOJQJ\]^JaJ>*CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^J>*OJQJ^J OJQJ^J5>*OJQJ^J6CJOJQJ]^JaJ6>*CJOJQJ]^JaJ!p ” Ň € Č Ç Č ÷ ť × Ř 2 3†|}ˆőéééőőÝÝőőŃŃőőőőĹĹĹőő & F Ć h8  & F Ć h8  & F Ć h8  & F Ć h8  ĆhĐ8 Ř 2Y[\]dglpu$123RXeƒ…|}…ˆš¤ŽŻľśÁÜŢvňčŕŮĐĆС§ˇ§ˇŮ›ŮЁĐĆĐvmٛŮЁС\ˇĐĆĐv 56CJOJQJ\]^JaJCJ OJQJ^JCJOJQJ^JaJ56CJOJQJ^JaJOJQJ\]^JaJ56OJQJ^JaJ56>*CJOJQJ\]^J56CJOJQJ\]^J>*CJOJQJ^JCJOJQJ^J OJQJ^JOJQJ\^J5>*OJQJ^J6CJOJQJ]^JaJ$ˆßv67…O°ąçzĚC›œ\¸jóóóééÝÝÝééŃŃŃÁŃééééľľ & F Ć h8  & F Ć hĐ8„0ý`„0ý & F Ć h8  & F Ć h8  ĆhĐ8  & F Ć h8 v€‹Žś67…’•OX_†°ą˝ĂČÖ盜ŕçę9\ňăňŐĘÁş°§˜§ĘŒĘŐĘÁşşşĘtfWf˜fM5>*OJQJ^J6>*CJOJQJ]^JaJ6CJOJQJ]^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJ56OJQJ\]^J>*CJOJQJ^JaJ56CJOJQJ\]^JCJOJQJ^J>*CJOJQJ^J OJQJ^JCJ OJQJ^JCJOJQJ^JaJ56CJOJQJ^JaJ>*CJOJQJ\]^JaJCJOJQJ\]^JaJ€¸őţ jkv› ŠŞŤÄÇź˝Čęěîď÷řůëě÷ů"#$ËĚ×ŘűüůđůĺŮĺŮĺĐůÄśĺŮĺŞĺ›ĺĐůÄśĺŮĺ„ĺĐůzÄŞĺŮĺ„ĺĐůzÄĺŮĺ56OJQJ^JOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ\]^JaJ5>*CJOJQJ\^JaJOJQJ\]^JaJ56CJOJQJ^JaJ56OJQJ^JaJCJ OJQJ^J>*CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^J OJQJ^J.jkŤű_ź˝ů=’ëě$mËĚaž}~žőőéééőőÝÝÝőőŃŃőőĹĹĹĹőő & F Ć h8  & F Ć h8  & F Ć h8  & F Ć h8  ĆhĐ8 ),i|}~‰‹ął´ź %56>@őęŢęĐÂꚲ¨œęŢę…ym˛d…VMV…OJQJ^JaJ5>*CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^J5>*CJOJQJ^J5>*CJOJQJ^JCJOJQJ^JaJOJQJ\]^JaJ56OJQJ^JaJ56OJQJ^J OJQJ^JCJ OJQJ^JCJOJQJ\]^JaJ56CJOJQJ^JaJ>*CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJ6CJOJQJ^JžiĚ %56g–—Đ 9 X Y } ~ óóóéééééÝŰĚÝÝĘÝÝÝÝÝÝÝÝÝ$ ĆhĐ8 Ü#a$ ĆhĐ8 Ü# ĆhĐ8  & F Ć h8 @OQXZfg–—ÇĎĐ ) + 5 8 M W X Y } ~ Ž ť Á Î Ď Đ ţ ˙ &!(!2!5!:!G!óčÚčóčŃÇżľŞŃÇŁ™ŁŁ‚Ł‚ŁwŁ‚Ł‚Çż™Łk56OJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJ>*CJOJQJ^JaJ>*CJOJQJ^J OJQJ^JCJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ\^JOJQJ\^J5>*OJQJ^JOJQJ^JaJ5>*CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJ>*CJOJQJ^JaJ%~ Ď Đ ţ ˙ 6!I!J!b!c!!Ž!ä!ĺ!"@"A"y"z"Ż"°"á"â"&#'#a#b#l##óóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóóó ĆhĐ8 Ü#G!H!I!J!N!R!V!a!b!c!!!Ł!Ź!!Ž!ş!Ŕ!Ĺ!Ó!ä!ĺ!"
