The Biddeford church of Christ
The Biddeford church of Christ was established in the early to mid 1970's, starting in the basement of a home in Biddeford, Maine. With the help of brethren in places like Monroe, Louisiana and Johnson, Arkansas, evangelist Willie Holcomb was given the opportunity to work with this small church family. Soon, they moved from a basement to a renovated laundry mat where they continued to spread the gospel up until mid to late 1980's. Through the sale of some land, along with the renovated laundry mat building, they were able to build a new facility debt free. The church family continues to meet there at this time.
Presently the membership is around 57 with a weekly attendance of around 40+/-. In 2004, for the first time in our history, the church family recognized three men as shepherds. Presently two of them remain in that capacity. Another milestone came in 2006 when the church family recognized three men as deacons.
The work in the Northeast has always been challenging and Biddeford is no different. Our desire is to do our best to seek and save the lost. We do this through a variety of ways such as outreach efforts in the community (i.e., clothes give away, free car wash, donating Thanksgiving meals to homes, etc.), bible correspondence, life groups and friendship evangelism.
