Our work with Let's Start Talking began in 1991, the year we married, moved to Memphis, TN and Craig stared graduate school. While we were both drawn to full time ministry, we never really had in mind a work like we are currently engaged in! That Fall, the campus minister at the University of Memphis (where we were interning) asked us if we would like to take a group of students overseas with Let's Start Talking. We had never heard of LST so Craig said "no," Leslee said "yes," and you can see who won in the end!
As we worked with churches in Memphis, TN and Edmond, OK the work of LST became part of our regular ministry. We were using LST to involve church members and campus ministries in international mission work. At the same time we were using LST to help local congregations reach out to international friends in their own neighborhoods. By 1998 we were living in Edmond, OK and using LST so much that it became a natural step to start working full time for the ministry.
From the very beginning to the present time Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ has been a partner. Many of the friends and family that Leslee grew up with at Pleasant Ridge have been supporting LST on our behalf for more than a decade. What started with support from individuals, grew to support from a class at Pleasant Ridge, and bloomed into monthly contributions from the Mission Support Team. Since our move to the DFW area, Craig has completed his doctorate, our three boys (Joshua, Matthew, and Andrew) have been on more mission trips since they've been born than many people go on their entire lives, and God has opened tremendous doors of opportunity for LST. Though the support of Pleasant Ridge God is using LST to send hundreds of short-term workers each year and shape the lives of international neighborhoods all over North America.
