Camp Shiloh

Shiloh provides a Christian summer camping experience where children from New York City’s toughest neighborhoods can enjoy a variety of fun-filled games, creative classes and adventure activities, as well as spiritual “cross training” time to enrich their lives both socially and spiritually. Because of the loving, supportive environment, we have seen children’s attitudes transformed in two weeks from distrust to reliance, anger to love, and despair to hope. Camp Shiloh is 90 miles north-west of New York City in the Catskill Mountains. Its 104 wooded acres has cabins for 80 campers and 30 staff members
per session plus a baseball field, swimming pool, basketball courts, recreation hall, Arts and Crafts building, three outdoor pavilions for classes and several hiking trails. Most campers, ranging in age from 9 to 15, attend camp through full scholarships provided by supporters. A total of 320 children from urban communities of New York City and Connecticut attend one of four sessions between mid-June and August. They are led by competent, caring staff members who work hard to celebrate and build on the talents and abilities of each camper. Campers who have aged out of
our summer camp program, 16-18 year olds, can apply for our Counselor-in-Training program. This program provides an op-portunity to continue experienc-ing camp in a “starter” staff role. Each CIT is assigned to a member of our program/leadership staff where they will work side by side and learn the various roles and responsibilities of team members at camp. This allows for individual attention and growth due to a closer mentoring role. The goal of the CIT program is to instill four core values: spirituality, work ethic, service, and teamwork—important tools that allow these young people to continue to grow in the Shiloh family.
